Altering Attributes: Simple Physics Simulations in POPs

In this workshop you will learn all about attributes, the essens of POPs. What they are, why it’s so efficient to work with them and most importantly, how do we use them ? All this will be discussed while building simple but intriguing physics simulations. I’ll show you how to do it all in regular POPs, while also briefly presenting why GLSL might be easier to work with in POPs than in TOPs.
Useful Info: Have a TouchDesigner version installed on your taptop that supports POPs (the new operator family)

TouchDesigner is a node-based visual programming language and interactive media development platform primarily used to create real-time interactive multimedia content, installations, and live performances. It is being developed by Derivative Inc. and is widely used by artists, designers, VJs, and professionals in the field of interactive media.

Organized by Bright Festival Connect, The NODE Institute and Derivative, the TouchDesigner Meetup invites creatives and developers who work with the visual development platform TouchDesigner as well as everybody who is curious about the world of interactive media art and the people behind it.

Stefan will introduce The NODE Institute, which empowers the creative software community by hosting user meetups and online courses. Elastique. will present some of their projects where TouchDesigner played a pivot role in transforming concepts into immersive, interactive installations. The event provides a unique glimpse into the complex world of interactive digital installations, offering attendees valuable insights into the workflows behind these projects and showcase the diverse ways in which the software can be harnessed to create these experiences.
Ioannis Mihailidis will show how TouchDesigner can be used to develop an interactive installation. Attendees witness how sensors, cameras and other data source can be seamlessly integrated, allowing for real-time interaction that responds to audience movements and gestures.

– Free Ethernet Port. You will use this port to communicate with light fixtures. We will also bring some spare usb ethernet adapter with us.
– Windows or Mac Laptop. Mac devices have limited access to some sensors like Leap Motion or Kinect.
– If you have a sensor device at home, bring it with you. We have also a bunch of devices for you.

TouchDesigner allows artists to create a beautiful, creative mess. Everything connects to everything and it’s easy to experiment with interactivity and generative media in unforeseen ways. However, for every artist comes the moment, where they need to tame the creative chaos and get ready to perform a show on a big stage.

Stefan Kraus will explain how to set up projects in an optimized and reliable way. Learn how to avoid frame drops, crashes, jittery video playback and many other traps that can make show creation in a real time environment challenging. Sequence live shows or automated installations. Orchestrate lights, projections and sound without hiccups and shameful moments of reboot.
